Infants & Toddlers Track: More than Diapers and Bottles - Observing to Teach

Core: III     CDA: 7

Preschool Track: What's Wrong? - Identifying and supporting preschool children with Possible Developmental Delays

Description: What's Typical? What's not? This session will explore the range of typical development for 3-5 year olds, and identify important "red flags" that may indicate a delay in development. We'll discuss the teacher's role in gathering information, learn how to share concerns with families and develop strategies for linking families to additional resources.

Core: I IV      CDA: 1,8

School-Age Track: What’s Wrong with my School-Ager? - Identifying and supporting school-age children with possible developmental delays

Description: During the elementary school years from age six to twelve, children are learning and growing and changing – a lot! How do we know what’s “normal?” And what do we do when we suspect that something might be wrong? This session will explore the range of typical development and behavior for school-age children and identify important “red flags” that may indicate delays or challenges in development and learning. We’ll learn about the teacher’s role in gathering information, learn how to share concerns with families, and develop strategies for supporting children in our programs.

12:30pm – 3:30pm                 Session II (Choose one Session)

Infant & Toddlers Track: Beyond Playing with Infant and Toddlers

Description: Sometimes working with infants and toddlers can be wonderful since they are discovering and developing so rapidly. However, it is important to be intentional and individualized with the children on what you are planning for the classroom. We will discuss ways to use assessment and observations to determining where the children are upon their increasing skills for each and every child in your classroom.

Core: I II III     CDA: 1,7,8

Preschool Track: Why Won’t They Just Behave? – Addressing challenging behavior in preschool-age children

Description: Come to this training and learn ways to work with even the most challenging children. If you want to learn more then redirection and praise this class is for you. We will talk about all forms of positive discipline as well as ways you can be proactive with all the children in your class to teach them conflict, resolution, emotional literacy and impulse control. You will leave with practical strategies you can begin using in your class on Monday morning.

Core: VI          CDA: 3

School-Age Track: But Shouldn’t They Know Better by Now? – Addressing Challenging Behavior in School-Age Programs

Description: So they’re not preschoolers anymore, but they’re still “pushing your buttons!” In this session we’ll learn some powerful ways to shift our focus and “reframe” our approach to (and our feelings about) challenging behavior in school-age children. We’ll explore some of the reasons behind many common mis-behaviors and explore strategies to prevent these behaviors, as well as to address them when they arise.
