Summary

It is probably safe to say that most teachers have experienced children with challenging behavior at one point or another. It can be common for young children to experiment with rules, boundaries and consequences. Young children often test limits and assert their independence. However, when a child's behavioral challenges impede his/her ability to learn and participate in school, home, and in the community it becomes a serious issue. Furthermore, challenging behavior creates a challenge for teaching. Decreasing these challenging behaviors can prevent expulsion and allow teachers to devote more time to teaching desired skills and concepts. This training uses the Building Blocks framework to provide some practical suggestions for supporting appropriate classroom behavior and decreasing challenging behaviors in classroom and community settings.
