Module 07: Understanding Early Intervention and Special Education

Description: Wondering how to decipher the “alphabet soup” of special education for children from birth to the early elementary years? This session will introduce you to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act or IDEA, Part C, and the IFSP (Individual Family Support Plan), as well as Part B and the IEP (Individual Education Plan). You will learn how to work with other professionals – such as speech, language, physical and occupational therapists –to support children in child care and early learning programs.

Use Your Brain to Help Them Calm Down

Description: Young children are still learning how to regulate their emotions, and how to communicate their needs, wants and feelings appropriately. This session explores how brain development affects children's behavior, and how teachers can use that knowledge to help children learn important social and emotional skills.
