This session will identify key challenges that children face with autism while providing teaching strategies to promote social engagement, communication development, and relationships.

Objectives:
At the end of the professional development event, participants will be able to: o Understand how the physical environment impacts individuals with autism. o Understand how schedules and routines can affect individuals with autism. o Learned strategies related to the schedule and routines to support individuals with autism. o Understand some of the key challenges for individuals with autism. o Learn strategies to support communication for children with autism. o Identify social skills and relationships characteristics common in children with autism. o Use strategies to support inclusive practices in child care and early learning programs. o Understand the characteristics of families who have children on the autism spectrum.
