Summary

Homelessness negatively impacts child development, learning, and behavior. With 1 in every 14 children under the age of 6 experiencing homelessness in Missouri, it is not something that can be ignored. This training explores the definition of homelessness, its impact on families and children, and strategies to support these families and children in an effort to reduce the effects.

Objectives:
Participants will know the definition of "homelessness" according to the McKinney-Vento act. Participants will understand the challenges families face who are experiencing homelessness which create barriers to accessing quality early childhood programs. Participants will understand how homelessness can impact a child's development, learning, and behavior. Participants will learn strategies to support families and children experiencing homelessness.
