Summary

This training will explore how we guide children in today’s classrooms. We will discuss a study done on: Teachers Instructions and Children’s Compliance in Preschool Classrooms: A Descriptive Analysis. This study will give us a glimpse into how the context of teacher's instructions correlates to children compliance. We will discuss safety through composure and assertiveness. This includes using tools such as noticing, routines, and the language of safety, in order to provide a supportive environment in which children and youth can learn and practice appropriate and acceptable behaviors. Participants will also examine peace building and conflict resolution in the infant/toddler & preschool classroom. We will discuss the importance of providing young children with opportunities to work on their problem-solving skills and to offer gentle guidance and encouragement when they are struggling. These skills are essential for developing and maintaining relationships with others. We will discuss strategies that involve the following steps in problem solving: controlling emotions, identifying the problem, working out a solution or solutions and then trying the solutions out.
