Summary

Challenging behavior is a significant problem in early childhood classroom settings. The research tells us that conflicts occur at a rate of 60 conflicts per hour in a preschool classroom. That equates to 1 conflict per minute. What if there was something we could do to prevent challenging behavior? This session focuses on our perceptions of behavior and what can be done to prevent challenging behavior with strategies to teach social skills, behavior, and limits.

This session focuses on our perceptions of behavior and what can be done to prevent challenging behavior with strategies to teach social skills, behavior, and limits.

Outcomes/ Benefits: Understand how unconscious beliefs impact my perception on behavior and how it relates to my hot spots. I understand that developmentally appropriate expectations prevent challenging behavior. I understand the components in the Positive Behavior Approach. I know strategies to enhance relationships with children to support the Positive Behavior Approach. I know environmental strategies to prevent challenging behavior.
