Understanding and Supporting Speech & Language Delays in the Early Childhood Classroom

In this training, teachers will develop an understanding of what speech and language delays are. Teachers will learn the importance of monitoring milestones and early intervention. Teachers will develop an understanding of early intervention services. Teachers will learn strategies for how to best support children with potential speech/language delays in the classroom. Teachers will also learn how to talk to and support parents through a potential speech delay.

Content Areas

1a: Understand the developmental period of early childhood from birth through age 8 across physical, cognitive, social and emotional, and linguistic domains, including bilingual/multilingual development. (1.5 Hours)
2b: Collaborate as partners with families in young children's development and learning through respectful, reciprocal relationships and engagement. (0.5 Hours)
